Morgan Carter is a multi-award winning British/Australian Soprano. Morgan holds a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music support by the Sir John Fisher Foundation and the Brian Boak Bursary Foundation, and holds a Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where they were the recipient of two scholarships for performance excellence.
In 2022, Morgan was the recipient of the prestigious Brian Boak Bursary Outstanding Performer award, to support their further education in the UK. They held the Gertrude Johnson Fellowship for 2020, and in 2019, Morgan was a participant in the State Opera South Australia James and Diana Ramsay Developing Artist Programme and a member of the Australian Contemporary Opera Company Young Artist Program.
Morgan’s operatic roles include Iphis (Iphis), Carmen (Carmen), Hannah After (As One*), Edith (Boojum!), Cherubino (Le Nozze Di Figaro), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Third Witch (Macbeth), Mrs Northwind and Adelaide (The Enchanted Pig*), Ottavia (The Coronation Of Poppea), Tessa (The Gondoliers), Jefferson (Space Encounters), and Older Ellie (The Water Babies). They have covered Amneris (Aïda), Bess (Breaking the Waves) and Larina/Olga (Eugene Onegin) and role studied Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Elle (La Voix Humaine) and Lady in Waiting (Macbeth).
Morgan is an accomplished oratorio soloist in Australia, having performed works across Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne, in venues such as the Sydney Town Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. Morgan’s experience includes Soprano soloist in Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Brossard’s Judith ou La Mort D’Holopherne, Haydn’s Creation and Nelson Mass, and Alto soloist in Mozart’s Requiem and Bitten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. Morgan was a choral scholar at Christchurch Saint Laurence in Sydney (2014-2016), and at Pilgrim Uniting Church in Adelaide (2018-2019). Morgan is excited to be making their UK Oratorio debut revisiting Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the Glossop Choral Society.
Morgan has numerous chorus credits, including; Macbeth, Fidelio, Le Nozze di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, Peer Gynt, Carmen, Orpheus in the Underworld, La Sonnambula, Aida, Tosca, Cunning Little Vixen, the Bartered Bride, Eugene Onegin, Hamlet (Brett Dean), and The Enchanted Pig* (Jonathan Dove).
Morgan is a principal artist with Lyric Opera (2022), BK Opera (2021), Gertrude Opera (2020, 2019), State Opera South Australia (2019), Elephant in the Room Productions (2022, 2018), Australian International Productions (2018), the Mediterranean Opera Festival (2018), Co-Opera (2020, 2017), Emma Knights Productions (2018, 2017), and Rockdale Opera Company (2017). Morgan has been in the chorus for productions with Melbourne Opera (2019-2021), and State Opera South Australia (2018-2020).
